Whether large of small, every business should get behind the local charities making a difference in their communities.
This week I shared a coffee with a mother who lost her eight year old daughter to a rare form of bone cancer. She spoke with a twinkle in her eye at the memory of her daughter’s dancing ability, and I was humbled by her sheer strength and determination to help other families who will have to go through what her family did.
After the unthinkable has happened and Sally was at her lowest ebb, she has found her ‘why’ again, through her devotion to the charity she now runs called Abby’s Heroes.
Making a difference
Abby’s Heroes makes a real difference to the lives of children. They support children and their families, including bereaved families in their (and my) local area through financial and practical help, while providing the opportunity to make lasting memories for children and their families.
And it’s charities like these that we should all be singing the praises of this Friday for #LocalCharitiesDay.
Saying thank you
From cycling 100 miles across the South Downs way, to manning the Children in Need phone lines and taking part in the ‘Hell Runner’ through bogs and sand dunes, myself and colleagues are always willing to get involved in fundraising in any way we can.
That’s why at Firmitas we’re proud to offer what support we can to Abby’s House and charities like these, and we can all do our bit, including taking part by pledging our time to support them. We’re also a proud partner of St. James’s Place Wealth Management which generously matches every pound raised for charity by its members through its charitable foundation.
On Friday I want to celebrate the amazing work of Abby’s Heroes and urge everyone to take a moment and find a way to get behind a local charity that matters to you.
