You will probably know us best for running the annual Scottish Poppy Appeal, but Poppyscotland works all-year round to support our Armed Forces community in Scotland. In the past year we have supported people in every part of the country and that’s why we’re backing #LocalCharitiesDay.
With the help of our year-round fundraising and generous donations from the Scottish public, we offer life-changing support to those who have served, those still serving, and their families – many of whom are in desperate need of our help.
How do we help? The money you raise helps fund our vital welfare services and these are broadly split into seven areas, which are:
- Tailored support and funding matched to an individual’s requirements as they change over time.
- Advice from a dedicated helpline with specially trained advisors (0808 800 1007)
- Employment via a range of services from re-training through to helping those detached from the workplace.
- Helping veterans live independently by providing occupational therapist assessments, home adaptations and mobility aids.
- Providing respite and much needed breaks for those who wouldn’t otherwise have the opportunity.
- Funding vital home improvements and working with specialist housing organisations.
- Working with specialists to provide advice and support to veterans suffering with mental health difficulties.
None of this would be possible without you
Our volunteers and fundraisers are the lifeblood of what we do – and it’s no exaggeration to say we wouldn’t be here without their incredible support. By taking part in #LocalCharitiesDay, Poppyscotland can highlight the life-changing support we provide in local communities across the country.

Charlie and the Poppy Factory
It’s a little-known fact but all of the poppies and wreaths in Scotland are carefully handmade by disabled ex-servicemen and women all year round – led by the Poppy Factory Manager, Charlie Pelling – at the Lady Haig Poppy Factory in Edinburgh.
Around 40 veterans hand make approximately five million poppies and more than 10,000 wreaths throughout the year, to make sure the Scottish public can wear their poppies with pride during the Remembrance period. If you’d like to find out more about the factory, we would be delighted to hear from you.
