An exciting opportunity for UK senior technologists
Applications are now open for UK-based senior technologists working in fintech, healthtech, edtech or creative tech to join the UK South Africa Tech Hub Developer Placement programme. Selected participants will act as mentors, sharing their knowledge and skills with the newly graduated developers and providing feedback for the placement companies.
The successful participants will undertake two fully funded trips to South Africa, gaining new perspectives on deploying innovative tech to approach global challenges and benefitting from extensive exposure to South African early stage tech entrepreneurs operating in similar sectors.
DCMS Tech Hubs
The UK-South Africa Tech Hub forms part of a growing international network of DCMS delivered Hubs. The Hubs work to forge innovation partnerships between local tech sectors and UK and international businesses, stimulating local digital ecosystems and building high-end digital skills to drive sustainable jobs and growth.
Through Hub activities, local entrepreneurs and founders acquire the skills and support they need to accelerate their scale-up journey.
The programme
The UK-South Africa Tech Hub has launched a pilot Developer Placement programme to increase the number of digitally up-skilled youth from diverse backgrounds entering entrepreneurial activity streams. This could be through a work placement within tech start-ups or traditional small businesses requiring digital enablement, or through creating their own new entrepreneurial endeavours.
The programme has been designed to counter the issue of local digitally skilled youth being absorbed predominantly into corporate roles, which inhibits the ability of young SMEs to attract, afford and retain talent.
To close the programme, the UK-South Africa Tech Hub will host a networking evening to introduce the UK participants to the wider South African tech ecosystem, facilitating future expansion into the market.
